Tulsa World’s U Decide:Enough is enough

The struggle to generate some sort of sports related conversation in the middle of this treachorous month of August is nowhere more prevalent than in the Tulsa World’s “U Decide” series. The weekly poll that asks Oklahoman’s to vote on football related questions, with obvious answers, has reached a little too far this time.

“Cowboys best up for debate,” read the headline in Saturday’s world.

Ummmm, no it’s not.

Sorry Thurman, sorry Rashaun, sorry Tone Jones, but Barry Sanders is without a doubt, the best player in the history of OSU football, and arguably the best player in the history of college football.

I was still wearing huggies when Barry was making highlight worthy runs, but I get on YouTube, and I have fond memories of Sanders’ NFL career that ended way too early. And I also know that he rushed for 2,628 yards in 11 games his final season in Stillwater. I don’t know the per game average off the top of my head, nor do I feel like doing the math, but that’s somewhere around 240 ypg.

Damn.

PER GAME!

That’s ridiculous.

The only downfall to Sanders’ career was that he had a future hall of famer in front of him on the depth chart for two years, and therefore didn’t have the opportunity to shatter every career rushing record that college football has to offer.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve decided, this question is stupid.
