Athlete’s First takes home AAU crown

Led by 32 points from Xavier Henry, Oklahoma’s Athlete’s First squad took home the gold at the 2008 Super Showcase in Orlando Fl.

The Putnam City senior to be, and #1 shooting guard in the 2009 class made a strong case to replace Atlanta’s Derrick Favors as the #1 overall prospect going into the 2008-2009 season. At 6-6 with the ability to pull up from three or put the ball on the floor and get to the foul line, Henry showed why every school in the country is vying for his services, with Memphis and Kansas appearing to be the leaders.

While Henry took home MVP honors, teammate Terrance Boyd was impressive throughout the weekend. The 6-5 wing poured in 20 points in both the finals and semi-finals. Boyd doesn’t play like a true guard, but uses his athleticism to rebound and score around the basket a la P.J. Tucker.

While Boyd may not be a sure fire pro prospect, he will make some college coach very happy for four years. He’s currently being pursued by OSU, OU and Kansas State, with no offers on the table.
